Set up your store

A store in Clockout is one physical location. Everything else — schedules, timecards, payroll — belongs to a store, so it is worth spending ten minutes on these settings before your team starts using the app.

Your first store is created together with your account when you sign up — there is no separate “add a store” step, and no Settings → Stores screen. Its name, address, time zone, and workweek start day are all under Settings → Basic info.

A shift always belongs to exactly one store, and one person can hold access to several — see Manage store access.

Time zone. Every punch is stored in UTC and displayed in the store’s time zone. If the store’s time zone is wrong, a shift that ran 10pm–2am will land on the wrong day in reporting and in payroll. Set it to the location’s actual local time zone, not yours. It is under Settings → Basic info.

Workweek start day. This sets the seven-day window your workweek runs on, also under Settings → Basic info. It is independent of your pay period: a pay period can span several workweeks.

Where overtime applies, it is calculated per workweek rather than per pay period — which is why the two settings are separate. Decide the start day once and leave it alone. Changing it later changes how future payroll runs are built; runs you have already submitted keep the figures they were built with.

Pay period. Weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, or monthly, with the date the first period starts. This one lives on your payroll company under Settings → Payroll settings, and it is what payroll runs against — see Run payroll.

Whether a break is paid is fixed by its kind, not by a setting you choose: meal breaks are unpaid and are subtracted from worked time, and rest breaks are paid and are not. What you configure under Settings → Breaks & compliance is how often each kind is earned as someone works.

Unpaid meal breaks are the single most common cause of “my hours look short” questions, so tell your team which break they are taking.

With the store configured, add your team and pair the kiosk — see Add a team member and Set up the iPad kiosk.
